Hi everyone, I’m hoping someone can help or has had a similar experience.
I’ve applied for Carer Support Payment in Scotland from 1 June. I’m paid every 4 weeks. My payslip paid on 29 Maywas over the earnings limit because I’d worked some extra shifts before my claim started. Since 1 June, I’ve gone back to my normal contracted hours, and my next payslip is well below the earnings limit.
Social Security Scotland are saying the 29 May payslip is causing an issue. I’m confused because I’m not claiming before 1 June, so I don’t understand why that payslip is being used.
Has anyone had a similar experience? Did they use an earlier payslip, or were they able to assess your earnings from the date your claim started?
Thanks in advance for any advice.
@Maxp99 welcome to forum. I live in England so I don’t know about carer support payment. But the internet states.carer support payments in Scotland are paid every 4 weeks in arrears . Now your payments can be backdated for up to 13 weeks before your application/ claim date aslong as you met the eligibility criteria during this time. Benefits are paid in arrears . I hope that you understand.
Hi thanks for you’re reply
I’m not asking for it to be back dated tho I’m asking for it to start on June the 1st so 4 weeks in arrears would see a payment end of June etc would that not be right?
Thanks again
@Maxp99 it is paid four weeks in arrears .so if you have applied for carer support payments in Scotland from the 1st June. It is paid for the 4 weeks before the 1st June as it’s paid in arrears.
when you first apply you can have it back dated 13 weeks before your application date as long as you met the eligible criteria during this time.
Benefits are always paid in arrears .
@Maxp99 do you understand now max. Benefits are always paid in arrears.
Yes I know what you mean but if my claim starts on the 1st June in arrears it would be paid end of June 4 weeks later from the 1st
@Maxp99 ok max this is what you want . If you applied without requesting to backdate your claim your payments will start from the date your application is recieved because it is paid in arrears .your first payment covering that initial 4 week period will reach your account 4 weeks after your claim official starts.
Application 1st June First payment date 29th June .first payment 1st June -28th June. (That’s google says ) .
You will need to tell them that you wanted your claim to start from the 1st June because it is paid in arrears you will get paid at the end of June for the 4 weeks up to the 1st June.

@Maxp99 if you haven’t explained this to the social security they won’t know what you want to do . Like Melly has said if you ring the citizens advice bureau in Scotland they will help you deal with the social security.
