Hi. New to here. I’m a carer for my husband who is under the pallative care team but not end of life. He was recently discharged from hospital after 6 weeks. They said his mobility was baseline. He has carers twice a day to help dress/ wash/ toileting. This is free for 6 weeks through Reenablement team. He is on week 4. His mobility is so poor. He sometimes needs two carers to get him to stand. Very rarely he does it on his own. I know he won’t pay after the 6 weeks. I work full time and am anxious about what will happen after the 6 weeks? I’m also struggling and cry myself to sleep most nights. I feel so alone. People ask how’s he’s doing but I seem invisible. I’ve had a carers Assesment where they advised to go to groups but most of these are in the day so I’m unable to attend. Any advice would be appreciated.
My husband has been in a reablement programme which frankly has done nothing for him. He has just been hoisted around, not exercised. It finishes tomorrow, but I want to take care of him as I had been doing successfully, but due to him venting early one morning, being angry at me and everyone, they brought up a safeguarding issue. This has been so distressing as it may mean he has to take on carers, which he hates, preferring me to them. I want to care for him, but feel they are just trying to keep carers employed and cutting down the number of free home carers, who love our partners and want to care for them ourselves, living our own private lives. He was better and could mobilise under my care, but after being left in the hospital bed for six weeks he cannot get out of bed. I feel like this is a planned pattern the NHS is practising, to decondition then send home elderly patients, to retain more council carers until the patient is too weak to recover. I believed medical care’s motto was ‘first do no harm’ but they seem to be neglecting elderly patients and reducing their baseline by leaving them without exercise. Many other relatives in the wards felt the same, elderly relatives had come in walking and gone home bedbound. I have written to my MP about this, the elderly deserve care as much as anyone, it is upsetting to see handcuffed prisoners patients given exercise, and our loved relatives left lying in bed because of staff shortages.
@Elisemig welcome to the forum Elise. You say you wrote to your MP how long ago did you write to him weeks ago. Have you had any reply. If it was a while ago resend the email write at the top Urgent. And write sorry to send this again I understand that you must be very busy but this is urgent.
Secondly contact your local CAB. Type into Google citizens advice bureau and then the area that you live and it will bring up your local citizens advice bureau phone number.ring them give them a brief explanation of what’s going on and they will make you an appointment for someone to ring you back about all this and help . Get some paper and a pen and make a list of all the things that concern you ,you are worried about and what you want help with and to ask so you don’t forget anything as it’s easy to .and have some paper so you can write down the things that they tell you. I hope this helps.
Also requarding the safeguarding you said that they brought up a safeguarding issue. You mean the carers have brought up a safeguarding issue. Have they reported this to the care agency /council .
