Moving and caring

Hello Group

I am Wondering if anyone has some advice. I live with mum we live in a private 4bed house she was assessed by adult social care for a grant for wet room and stairlift unfortunately the stair lift won’t fit. So we said we could not go ahead with works I have a copy of report for future reference.

I am her sole carer I am recovering from pneumonia since December 21 due to chest infection so am doing things slower than normal. I have had to give up my job as I worked in a garden centre with landscaping products and I am currently waiting for benefit outcome for Carer’s and esa as I’m only allowed to do light duties as doc has signed me off for a while.

Since I have been unwell my sister has been driving about 100 round trip to Ely Cambridgeshire and back when needed to do some bits. We realise how much easier it so would be to move to a bungalow with wet room nearer to my sister.

As you can imagine you build up stuff over the years. Is there any groups that could provide assistance clearing up contents ready for moving your aware of in Essex (Braintree/ Uttlesford) Then eventually cleaning a little bit of diy we would be happy to pay so the move might happen quicker.

As She finds the stairs a struggle and gets very anxious. But the bathroom is upstairs. So a down stairs bedroom does not help much.

Hello Austin

I wanted to wish you a warm welcome to the forum and to highlight some of the options for connecting with fellow carers and for getting support from Carers UK should you need it.

Carers UK are running online weekly meet ups for carers to take some time for themselves and chat to other carers. Feel free to join if you’d like to and there’s no pressure to share anything you don’t want to. I’m sure you’ll find others in a similar position to yourself.

You can find information on how to register to our online meetups at the following pages:

We also have regular Share and Learn sessions running too, these are more fun based session for our carers, to date we’ve run sessions ranging from creative writing activities to beginners Latin dance sessions. Share and Learn | Carers UK

Hi Austin,
welcome to the forum. I’m sorry to hear you have been so poorly - it makes caring even more difficult.

I don’t know regarding help with sorting, packing etc apart from paying a removal company to do this. Other posters might know different.

I have used AB Clearance Services in Hornchurch, who were fine, and just recently I’ve been dealing with a death in Highgate and the solicitor there is using AB Clearance Services too.

I should think they could at least advise you whether they would suit your situation. Good luck with it!
I don’t suppose a through-floor lift would work for you since it would not move you nearer your sister!
