Can anyone help I am seeing conflicting reviews can my Husband claim carers allowance for his mother he cares for her in her own home 7 days a week for approx 40 hours and is not currently employed
Yes, absolutely, as long as mum is getting a disability benefit? The hours can include things he does for mum like shopping, even if she is not with him. If claiming CA he will not be required to look for work.
Thank you for replying we did not know about having to look for work although he is near retirement age 1 year away I know that the carers will stop once he is in receipt of state pension
Yes, that annoys many of us!
However, is his mum claiming everything which she is entitled to?
She must be very elderly (85+) and that brings a lot more of health issues. Has mum had a Needs Assessment from Social Services in the last year?
Has your husband had a Carers Assessment?
Would he like someone else to help care for mum?
Yes she’s 84 has carers come in A/m to give her medication but the rest of the time he deals with her needs shopping cleaning she is suffering from dementia but early stages. He hasnt had a carers assessment and she is very dependant on him doesn’t want anyone else providing care for her but him she is in receipt of Attendance allowance
