Shopping problems

On the radio they were talking about the 750,000 volunteers. Surely shopping would be an easy way of using them??

Possibly more in the local mutual aid groups , BB.

Join one of them and you’ll be in the front line within minutes.

Compare that with the NHS … plenty of volunteers but most still to be allocated.

I assumed that the volunteers were the ones helping in the community now?

Phone number under each council I think.

A volunteer got something I run out of the other day.

Phone number under each council I think.

Most of the local mutual aid groups have registered with Covid-19 Mutual Aid UK :

Local Groups - Covid Mutual Aid

Try them using your own post code !

I am a member of my local one , information across the spectrum being my contribution to them … and several others including the local food banks.

In some areas , they have now replaced many services previously offered by the LAs … AT NO COST to the end user.

Long may that continue ?

we had a delivery yesterday the 13th april 2020 from a volunteer who was kind enough to get our shopping the bill come to 107.88 it was not untill we begin to put the food away and found out that the cold meat we ordered was out of date on trying to explaine the issue to linklives in eastbourne and also kings church there advise was we still have to pay the full amount of shopping all though some was out of date we was also advised that to find some one else to do our shopping , kings church also said that the vollunteer could not take the out dated food back ! so now it has to be thrown away

Linking Lives UK ?

Not one of the recent mutual aid groups :

https://linkinglives.uk/

I searched Covid-19 using EASTBOURNE as the area.

No results also for Kings Church.

12 groups were revealed , all with individual web sites.

Just had a shopping delivery and guy delivering decided he fancied putting his hands all over both bins before putting my shopping down.

Bin men have been today.

Rung shop and asked them to pick it all up again!

They are re picking our food and delivering late tonight! They may not have all the stuff.
A different guy is going to do it.

Delivery guy who came earlier only just started working there.

Obviously had no training re corona!

So just waiting for him to pick up all shopping on the doorstep!

hi the site is https://linkinglives.uk/eastbourne/contact/ i think it came through local mp or local council kings church was through linking lives , we did try and join facebook but account was disabled for some reason but not had a account with them before
this is what he delivered IMG 20200414 152611 Resized 20200414 033146064 : gizmo62 : Free Download, Borrow, and Streaming : Internet Archive who is going to use 480grams of chicken in 1 day

Might be worth your while checking out the new mutual aid groups … 12 to choose from locally.

Many now go the extra yard … one volunteer over in Retford delivered essential supplies , fixed the boiler and
replaced the glass in the back door … on his first visit to an elderly man living on his own … at no cost.

Regarding the chicken, I know a pound of meat is quite a bit for a couple with small appetites. Could you freeze some, have some hot, some in sandwiches, make some soup or add some to some canned vegetable soup?

I would ring the store, tell them that unless THEY immediately replace it that you are going to contact the Food Standards Agency. This should not be happening under ANY circumstances.

BB

Thanks for reply.

First guy at store said that they could pick up stuff but could not do another shop. This was only when I pressed him. He tried to tell me he did not know if they had a driver in area. I told him …of course you do he has just delivered to us.

My hubby told them it was their cock up and they should sort it

We spoke to someone higher up who organised original guy to come back and take contaminated bags away.

When he came back to pick bags up he had gloves on this time. Strangely he steadied himself on our porch too!

Higher up manager told me they had re picked my food and it would be delivered after 8 pm.

So we are waiting hope it comes as we have no way now of getting any tonight.

Luckily we had enough food in free freezer for tea .

Its quite shocking what that guy did he touched both my bins with both his hands!

I would have hated this pre corona but just can’t tolerate it now!

Lovely guy just delivered food…

Not all there as it was a late shop. But enough for tea and loads of milk and juice.

Just none of my tea bags, fruit, kitchen roll or soap.

Manager had told me they wouldn’t refund what was missing but hubby will try and sort that as we will have to buy missing items.

But we are glad we now have food!

They won’t refund what was missing??? Report this clown to the company HQ!

Agree

Hubby just checked list.

About a third of shop missing.

Hubby will take it to the top if he has to.

Get used to that don’t we!

Have you tried Morrisson’s online shopping or one of their boxes, which are excellent value?
I became fed up of constantly trying to get a delivery from Tesco, still can’t. Then I tried a few times on Morrissons’ site, success at last, first a food box, which I highly recommnd Now I have been ableto do a secobd and third shop…

we wont use anything that is past its use by date , when contacting kings church they advised that the volunteer would not go back to the store for a replancement or refund , so i am thinking all though you have made a list up the volunteer would ring you and you pass the list to them over the phone volunteer goes to get shopping and comes back with what you did not want so basically you have to put up with what the volunteer gets you all though its wrong so what is the point of making a shopping list for volunteer and yes i know they are doing a service but bringing back stuff you cannot use in one day is not right would anyone buy food that has got a date to use buy on the day of buying it , cannot ring supermarket as they would say bring it back for exchange all though we have the receipts its not our bank card on the receipt

You can ring the supermarket because they shouldn’t be selling food that is out of date. Can you email a photo.
Is it the “sell by” or “use by” date you are looking at?

The best way to tell if something is “off” is to smell it.
If it smells OK it will be fine, especially if cooked thoroughly in a casserole.

try to ring supermarket for 4 days for delivery issues no answer . it is the use by date we are looking at as we will not use anything pasts it use by date .there fore wont even casserole it as it should not have been bought

Shirley

I will take a look at Morrisons.

Thank you

this is what we used it took 24 hr to update there system they do check you by postcode

Tesco

Tesco is trying to prioritise home delivery slots for vulnerable customers, reserving “hundreds of thousands of home delivery slots a week” according to a statement from the supermarket chain.

They are identifying customers using the list provided by the Government.

To try and get access to a priority slot, you can phone 0800 917 7359.

Tesco says that they are “working closely with administrators across the UK and expect this list to be extended to cover Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland in the coming weeks”.
