Shopping problems

Anyone had any luck? Or have any tips on what search term to use in google?
I tried “Food delivery - my town” just got a million takeaways thrown at me.
Tried “Groceries - my town” just got the same 4 supermarkets I been checking every few hours for past few weeks.
Tried “Food shopping delivery - my town” and got a mixture of the results for the above two.

Feeling a little hopeless atm, we’re down to tinned soup and bread, not even buttered bread lol

:-??? :-??? :-???

Morrisons teams up with Deliveroo during coronavirus lockdown.

Morrisons will offer a 30-minute delivery service from 130 stores for basic essentials, teaming up with takeaway delivery app Deliveroo.

The link-up, which launched on Tuesday, is aimed at ensuring anyone who is in self-isolation or cannot reach a store is able to get their food, the companies said.

Around 70 products will be available, including chopped tomatoes, bread and chicken, along with ready-meals including chicken tikka masala.

Bosses said the move would be “for the duration of the Covid-19 crisis” to help families stuck at home.

According to Morrisons, the deal can serve 6.8 million households and will charge the same price on Deliveroo as in stores - > although there will be a £4.99 delivery fee.

North before the South , perhaps BB ( Yorkshire Post report ) … if so , will make a welcomed change.

Once HS2 is built , perhaps 10 minutes quicker … if one can afford the fare ???

Shopping is one thing :

UK hunger crisis : 1.5 million people go whole day without food.

Councils and charities report ‘double whammy of austerity and Covid-19’ and urge government to step in.

Just three weeks into the lockdown, the Food Foundation said that 1.5 million Britons reported not eating for a whole day because they had no money or access to food. Some 3 million people in total were in households where someone had been forced to skip some meals. More than 1 million people reported losing all their income because of the pandemic, with over a third of them believing they would not be entitled to any government help.

The foundation’s findings are based on a YouGov poll carried out across England, Scotland and Wales this week. Its director, Anna Taylor, said the crisis was too big to be left to food banks and local authorities without funding. “This needs urgent and substantial investment from central government which needs to put money directly into the pockets of families who can’t afford food.”

Charities running food banks are also struggling to cope with a huge rise in people coming to them for emergency parcels. Sabine Goodwin, coordinator of the Independent Food Aid Network, said she feared the government was being too slow to respond and the situation was “spiralling out of control”. She said: “Food banks in our network are seeing as much as a 300% increase in footfall compared to this time last year but are still struggling to source enough appropriate food.”

Local authorities told the Guardian that the Food Foundation findings reflected what they are seeing on the ground. In Liverpool, for example, there has been a 150% increase in emergency grants from the council to people who have no food or money for electricity since the lockdown.

The city has a highly developed network of food banks and food distribution charities which have increased their operations rapidly in the last few weeks.

FareShare, the nationwide distributor of surplus food, is now open longer hours in Liverpool – from 7am to 10pm – and has distributed £380,000 worth of goods to families in need in the last five days.

Football fans supporting food banks have also raised £150,000 to buy more stock but the city’s assistant mayor, Jane Corbett, said families were being hit by “the double whammy of austerity and Covid-19” and charity was not enough on its own.

She warned that the local authority could not pay for the impact of the pandemic without funding from government. “The fragility of our current social security system is now being seen in stark relief; extreme pressure on food banks is just one clear example. Our budget has been cut by 63% since 2013.”

The numbers reporting going hungry in the last three weeks are 1.5 to two times higher than those experiencing hunger over a whole year in recent times, according to Dr Rachel Loopstra, lecturer in nutrition at King’s College London. “They suggest the Covid-19 lockdown has had a swift and devastating impact on the population’s ability to access sufficient food, both for economic reasons and because of self-isolation,” she said. YouGov polled 4,343 adults from 7-9 April and weighted its figures to represent all British adults.

A government spokesperson said: “Public safety and making sure that those most at risk from the virus get the support they need is our top priority. People should stay at home, to help protect our NHS and save lives.

“We’re working with the groceries industry, local government, local resilience and emergency partners to ensure essential items are delivered as soon as possible to the most vulnerable.”

Possibly , the post code lottery at it’s deadliest ?

Yesterday , meat / bread / fresh vegetables / potatoes had disappeared locally … bulk buying didn’t help when looking at the queue outside my local ASDA at 8.30 am.

Finances … locally , many on zero hour contracts … the emphasis on the word ZERO … even getting through the food bank referral system is problematical as there is a backlog.

Nor , of course , that infamous list … 1.5 million … as opposed to 10 million+ ???

Aldi changes its policy after care home manager refused access to emergency services queue.

Gillian Lilley uses Aldi to shop for her vulnerable residents.

Aldi has said it will support all workers helping vulnerable people.

The supermarket giant said they are extending priority shopping time for emergency workers that will now include social care workers, first responders and St John’s Ambulance Staff.

Previously, those workers included just those who worked in the emergency services.

The decision came just a day after Hull Live reported a care home manager was told she could not join the emergency services queue when she was shopping for residents.

Gillian Lilley, a care home manager at Sherbutt House in Pocklington told how she was unable to get a food delivery slot to the care home and staff shopping for residents at their local Aldi store were told they could not join the emergency services queue - even though they were buying for their vulnerable residents and not themselves.

That darn list again ?

Good that the care home manager complained!

Still, Aldi’s revised policy doesn’t cover unpaid carers then?

Nope , none of them do … officially.

Flashing carer credentials can admit some during " Happy hour " … others refused entry.

That dreaded post code lottery once again.

Oh , for the want of a nationwide carers card ?

Coronavirus : Fighting food poverty amid lockdown.

Driving past the city’s shuttered shops and empty bars and restaurants, it seems, on the face of it, that normal life in Manchester is on hold.

To help in the war against an invisible foe, millions of us are playing our part by observing the guidelines, staying at home and battling boredom.

But, at FareShare Greater Manchester, there can be no let-up in the fight against food poverty.

“We’re busier than ever,” said Glynis Platt, one of the charity’s long-standing volunteers.

"Demand is increasing, supply is increasing, yet half our staff have had to self-isolate.

“We’d normally have five or six people in this office. Now it’s just me and Tony.”

They have had to scrap Food Friday meal times because of Covid-19, explained food manager Chris Davies.

"Before this, we were serving 2,000 meals a month, or 500 a week. Now we have had to go to making 90 food parcels a day.

“It’s completely changed.”

This morning I noticed mine had put together a list of local suppliers who can deliver.

Hope this helps someone.

Thanks Cloudygal.

Just tried to identify a nationwide database for local deliveries across the UK.

Not one … so far … a case of an Internet search … ( AREA / MANOR / POST CODE ) LOCAL DELIVERIES.

Whilst out walking with S today, I saw Morrisons delivering on our estate today (under normal circumstances it would be Iceland/Asda/Tesco locals were having food delivered.) When we got home I thought I’d try booking a slot with them;

Number of users in queue ahead of you: 30823
Your estimated wait time is: 29 minutes

Maybe not.

Omg, that’s ridiculous isn’t it!

Hope you are feeling brighter today?
