.
I am far too scared of catching this thing to even enter a shop or chemist full stop.
The hoards of people who may have the virus is an awful prospect .
I’m in the vulnerable group so not supposed to go in anyway.
I have had to pay for someone to pick up non prescription items from the chemist.
Contact your local mutual aid group … said task is high priority for most :
Apparently Costco are now opening up for all NHS workers.
They have everything that carers need, in stock. What is needed is some sort of distribution system for Carers.
Yes … strangely , no official link up with the Trussells food bank network yet …
The whole food distribution network has to change rapidly to meet the new ball game.
A new TSAR with emergency powers to get A to B without being bogged down in legislation or paperwork
… not forgetting the challenges now presented in harvesting the crops.
At worst , bring in the military … as they were for the recently flooded areas … for transport duties.
That word MALNUTRITION … perhaps other related maladies … expect an explosion in many areas.
Ration cards have been muted.
Fine … if the foodstuffs and other essentials are available locally in the first place ?
It is all in Costco, but not everyone has a Costco card or transport to get to one.
The vulnerable don’t need charity, they just need access to the food.
It would be difficult to do an individual shop for everyone, but surely it should be possible for every area to do a hamper scheme. A basic hamper of bread, eggs, milk, butter and cheese, for example?
Maybe a pack of frozen meals?
I recently met someone who until very recently did a “Milk and More” round. Would expanding this scheme help the housebound?
Most of us have a very basic store cupboard, but after a week or two it’s inevitable that people are now running short.
Or is the problem that many people just don’t know how to cook “survival food” any more.
Did anyone else see Jamie Oliver’s programme about using things in the storecupboard, when he was grating fresh ginger. What planet is he on??? I last used fresh ginger when I was making rhubarb and ginger jam, in the last century!!!
Do we need to bring back Delia’s basic cooking programmes???
They were excellent, far, far better than Jamie’s efforts.
It would be difficult to do an individual shop for everyone, but surely it should be possible for every area to do a hamper scheme
Morrisons have announced the introduction of a similar scheme :
25th March
Morrisons delivering essential £35 boxes filled with toilet roll, pasta and bread
Fine for those able to purchase … what about low millions of others ?
No guarantee that paid parcel will be available when you visit , nor on a day for an online delivery.
Possibly better quality than a standard food bank parcel … even those are in jeopardy no thanks to supplies shrinking nationwide.
Something that came to mind when I started seeing special opening hours (though I’ve thought it before) was that, my mum, who I am a live-in carer for, us disabled and elderly. She cannot go to these and I’m youngish and not disabled. So how am I able to take advantage of this when I have nothing to say I am a carer, either than a letter that anyone could use.
I think it’s time we had some kind of card we could carry that has out picture that states we care for an family member. Then situations like this wouldn’t be an issue the same.
Make that another vote for a nationwide accepted CARERS CARD :
we have received shopping through volunteers today we got 3 receipts but total does not add up to 77.82 it adds up to 41.00 i have contacted company involved they said i sill got to pay 77.82 but not got all receipts … beware !!
My local Tesco was very civilised this this morning, usually on a Saturday I just buy a newspaper, a couple of cakes and my nicotine supplies for the week but today I though I’d better attempt to do my weekly food shop, (and still have plenty of options left if Tesco was a washout) instead of on Sunday afternoon.
It was quiet, very quiet, and well stocked with most things, the most notable exceptions being soap, toilet rolls, chicken, rice and pasta. What is everyone doing with all this rice and pasta? I 've always got some in the cupboard, I’ve not bought any since all this nonsense started and I still have plenty. The same with soap, did no-one wash their hands before? Again, I’ve not been able to buy any recently, but I have enough still to last another couple of weeks, even longer if I have to resort to using shower gel for soap.
Keeping a 2m distance from everybody else was requested, but difficult to comply with.
I even managed to get a box of red wine, I’ve missed that the last couple of nights since I ran out.
Dean … if the volunteers purport to be from a named organization , registered or unregistered , strongly recommend seeking out a web site and posting what you have posted here.
Should receive a response … at best , a warning for others ?
The present situation has been compared to home conditions in WW2.
Regrettably , the same practices hardly ever mentioned at the time seem to be reappearing.
the people we had was recommended by local mp for eastbourne sussex , what we have also noticed is that some items that was bought in yesterday are not on the receipt all though we ask for them but not on receiipt , so when contacting
https://linkinglives.uk/eastbourne/contact/ they said they have passed our details across to kings church eastbourne sussex and this is who the person came from at the moment i am trying get advice from barclays bank and adult social care about this matter …they are suppose to give you all receipts after taking pictures / video etc …!!
An established organization … not one which has be created to meet the challenges of coronavirus head on ?
Interesting …
barclays advice was dont pay i have contact people involved and left message i expect they will conntact me back on monday now …
My old employers giving sound advice … for once ?
There’s a big difference between the two figures.
If you do the shopping regularly you must have an idea of what everything costs, so can you not tally up the approximate cost of what you’ve received just to establish if there is an error?
yes but the thing is that we have 3 receipts but what was bought in yesterday is not on the receipts provided but we did ask for the items they are suppose to give you all receipts after taking pictures / videos … when you do a main shop all items that you have in your trolly will be on your receipt …
Well, that’s a little different, it sounds like they’ve just given you the wrong receipts.
You could still tally up what you actually have and if it comes close to £77.82 I’d probably not be fretting about it.
Ugh, just waited 10 days for my adsa delivery that i normally get fortnightly… all that came was 12 tins of dog food, a 6 pack of crisps and 4 baking potatoes, now it’s atleast 15 day wait for the next delivery… this is already looking grim
