NHS continuing health care assessment -

I asked for an CHC assement from the consultant doctor she declined and said its exclusivley for people going into lifelong care into a care home. I only realised after discharge that i should of asked her show me where the legislation is as what people say i take as a pinch of salt. They want the easy way out.

Make sure you are present when mum is assessed and mum or you get a copy of the report.Look at a website called Care to be Different. It would mean free care, nothing more to do with Social Services. It’s a postcode lottery I’m afraid, free care if mum is entitled. Does mum have savings and assets over £23,000? Yes/No.

No, we had it with the caree, my brother, at home.

no she is approaching pension time.

to get NHS Contiuning care they put you into a 4 week mental health care home so they can do an assessment involving family, doctor, OT, social workers etc seen a guy strapped tight onto a hospital bed shouting foul language to everyone was terrified when the doors of the ambulance opened going into the centre was an ugly building castle like. No way i would put my mother there for 1 day. You have no choice in care homes when referred by NHS nearest one to home postcode.

Hi @pipsy

People qualify for CHC funding for a range of healthcare needs. Not everyone requiring a CHC assessment is carted off on a stretcher to a mental health care home.

CHC funding can fund care at home, in a care/nursing home etc
It most certainly isn’t just for those who need lifelong residential care.
