Hi
Mum went into a care home straight from hospital. She never had any assessment for NHS funding at the time but she has a variety of mental and physical difficulties - unable to walk independently, confusion so couldnt or wouldnt be able to take her medication (of which she has a LOT), very limited use of arms and hands to start with. I wont go into it all but where do I start. She doesnt have a GP or social worker. Who do i ask to conduct the assessment?
The rules changed as a result of Covid, the answer isn’t clear cut any more I’m afraid.
Was mum getting any disability benefits before she went into hospital?
Were DWP notified of her admission to hospital, then the care home?Does mum have over £23,000 in savings? Yes/No.
Own a property?
Do you have Power of Attorney?
The first few weeks may be free. Has Mum had an NHS Continuing Healthcare Assessment?
Hi Sorry I wasn’t very clear due to it being an insomnia middle of the night post! My question is how to apply for an NHS continuing healthcare assessment. As far as I know she hasn’t had one. When I’ve looked into it it says it must be done via a social worker or GP and my mum doesn’t have either. If she is ill they ring a local doctor but it isn’t the one she had before she went into care. She has had a financial assessment (only because her cognitive state meant she wasn’t able to tell them her banking details and I was waiting for the LPA to come through at the time. She is self funding and is on the full AA rate. I have LPA only for finance and property.
Who did the financial assessment? Unless the rules have changed a financial assessment should only be done AFTER a negative CHC checklist assessment. Maybe contact Care to be Different for advice?
