Has anyone used a direct payment to get independent assessments and reports done outwith social work or NHS? A bit expensive but you can get up to a court like assessment by a solicitor for your needs.
I think they may decline it due to challenging their own assessments giving you more of a chance to get a more suitable package as it’s getting even more difficult to get a proper service telling them yourself you need professional opinions.

Sorry, it’s not something I’ve heard of - and I doubt that it can be used for that as it won’t be part of the assessed care plan. Is there a specific issue with the current assessment - e.g. is it factually inaccurate, is it using old information that’s out of date?

There uncontactable! They link your previous assessments together rather than independent. So, if you were declined once you will be again.
They also use the tactic of assigning the same advisor to next assessments.
I actually got a budget without a face to face assessment it was done by letter of needs during covid lockdown.
You need a doctor or specialist with power of attorney to speak on the behalf of the client as family and friends are non qualified non professionals they don’t accept what you say unfortunately.
