Housebound vaccines

Hi Pauline.
You are not having a rant, you are speaking up for your mum. I have spent most of today on the phone to my GP and the local NHS Community Trust. In my area of Sussex they have said they are still dealing with care homes ( rightly so ) and then will address the issue of housebound patients. A new LVC is opening up nearer to where we live so in desperation we have asked for an appointment there and I will wheel my dad in his chair. Hope it’s not snowing. They did not contact us to see if this venue would be easier to get to so I pointed this out and the Practice Manager has assured me that they will look into contacting people again with this option .
I still worry about other housebound people who are still waiting and will keep battling on to bring this issue to peoples’ attention.
Good luck with your mum’s appointment Pauline.
Keep safe.

I live in West Sussex and was told yesterday that in my area they are currently vaccinating care home residents but not housebound. I have been pushing for a home visit since Dec 13th for my 84 year old housebound dad.
After talking to our surgery we have realised that unless we take an appointment at a new vaccination centre which opens on Friday we will not be getting a home visit anytime soon. So on Friday I will be pushing my dad in his wheelchair to the centre. I hope it’s not raining as his bandaged feet and legs will get soaked and he might get a third chest infection. I hope there are no potholes as the sore on his bottom will cause a lot of pain. I hope his catheter and colostomy bag don’t need changing on the way. I hope the vaccine is delivered and the appointment isn’t cancelled.
However I want him to have the vaccine and to feel safer when his nurses come in so I know he is lucky to have got an appointment when others are still waiting.
Keep asking why housebound vaccinations are not happening? Good luck! I hope things work out for you and your families.
