@bowlingbun thanks, looking forward to hopefully sticking around on here

Would you like to tell us more about your caring role?

@bowlingbun not currently doing so quite yet however might end up doing so for family member undergoing cancer treatment in coming months

Try to find out as much as possible before you start. I’ve had kidney cancer, dad had prostate cancer, father in law had bowel cancer. The specialist charities were very helpful. Also find out about benefit entitlement, and what practical support you will need.

@Han02 Welcome! Lovely to see you here

Would you like to tell us a little about yourself? Only if you feel comfortable doing so.
We’re a diverse bunch of folks, with all sorts of experience.
I helped my Mum care for my dad, left work and took on more of the caring especially in the last years of his life. Now I look after Mum.

Do you have support and family around you—this isn’t just about thinking what the person you care for will need, it would be good to think about what YOU need IF you choose to care for the family member…

‘care’ is such a big term…trying to define exactly what that means, actions on the day to day basis can help you get clear or the amount of time, effort you’ll be doing. Having some conversations with your family member may feel awkward, sometimes over-personal, sometimes, frustrating…but understanding NEEDS versus WISHES can help too especially when you’re trying to define what people from agencies/ organisations can do to help.

I hope that helps

@bowlingbun yes have already been starting to and will continue to do so, but thanks for the suggestions anyway

@Victoria_1806 not got too much to include about myself so far.

Yes do feel as though could have already been starting to have some support and hopefully will still continue but had been helpful suggestions
