Hi I’m new to the group

Hi, came across the group today. I care for my partner who is 63, was diagnosed with mixed dementia (vascular and Alzheimer’s) two years ago. Be good to talk with others, finding it quite hard as he has declined quite quickly since diagnosis

Welcome to the forum.
Whenever dementia is mentioned, I like to check that all relevant benefits are being claimed? Under pension age, that means claiming PIP, Personal Independence Payment. Both for personal care and the need for someone to keep them safe when out and about. Once this is paid, then you can claim EXEMPTION from Council Tax, due to severe mental impairment. A horrible term. ‘‘Tis can be backdated, to the day the disability benefit was claimed. Martin Lewis knows someone who was repaid £8,000!

Hi @Lakeland67 My mum had the same diagnosis. It progressed really badly during covid, and she died during Christmas 2022 at 86.

It’s a hard road, isn’t it?
