Help with job and earnings

Hello everyone just need some advice.I hope all is well and thank you for your kindness and guidance on my other post. I recently started a new job i’m a passenger assistant, good hours it’s 8 hours per week and i earn roughly £105 per week. I work at a day centre with the driver taking people from their homes to a day centre and then when they finish pick them up from the day centre and back home. I’m enjoying it.

However the day centre i work with collabs with another day centre . They asked me if i was willing to be a passenger assistant with them as well. Their offer was an extra 3 hours or extra 1 hour and 30 minutes . The pay rate is still the same. However i calculated and if i work an extra 3 hours that will mean i’m £6.35 away from the £151 limit of weekly earnings. I’m worried that they will say to still take the offer because it’s still under the DWP’s capped weekly earnings limit.

As you can imagine that is too close to a call i’m worried especially if i work more than 3 hours one day, things can be unpredictable especially when working with vulnerable people . And i do not want to take the chance of one day potentially going over. Also i just do not want to worry and stress any more than i am. Some advice would be great. I’m worried if i say no how they may feel. The 1 hour and 30 minutes seems much more plausible and ideal.

Any advice would be fantastic also have a lovely weekend.

Hi @Melina_1806a, I would email the carers helpline for further information and advice but also speak to dwp as well just to cover all of the bases.

@Melina_1806a I second Michael’s suggestion of contacting the Carers UK Helpline

Carers UK information and support

For information and signposting, our telephone Helpline is available on 0808 808 7777 from Monday to Friday, 9am – 6pm (including Bank Holidays).

If you have a more complex query or would like more detailed guidance, we suggest you contact our email Helpline (advice@carersuk.org), as we’ll be able to provide more information.

I know that at one time the regular advice was to pay into a private pension plan as an allowable expense, as a percentage of the premium could be used to reduce your earnings to below the threshold but I’m not sure if this still applies - they will be able to confirm and give you more details.

There are certain things that can be taken away from your income. Whilst waiting for the helpline to get back to you, take a look at Carers UK’s main websit which has some more details.

One of the problems with social care is that everyone thinks it’s someone else’s job! I also missed out on a lot of help and support to start with, and two of my carees denied they were even disabled for many years! I often ask people that I’ve helped to help someone else as a thank you. On a coach trip in Majorca there was a couple, husband had a stroke, kind but exhausted wife. I had a little chat with them when the time was right. As a result they would be entitled to another holiday when they made a claim for back dated Council Tax exemption! Every job I’ve had since I left school has involved talking to complete strangers, so it’s normal for me.
