Does full CHC funding cover these things

my daughter is lucky enough to receive CHC funding.

however, she has just changed to a new provider. ccg are saying she should pay for her own caring consumables.
i.e. plastic gloves, mouth swabs, wet wipes and bed pads.(not incontinence pads) to protect the bed.

however, I thought CHC funding should cover all care needs.

thank you for your help.

hi chris
thank you for your reply.

I should not be having to pay these ‘top up fees’ but I am being told by CCG that I have to

where do I go from here, any ideas.

pam

Firstly, make sure you coax them to put it in writing to you.

Then when you have it in writing, make a formal complaint to the CCCG in the area. Take a look at the CHC Framework on the internet, and print off the relevant part.

One to bounce off the regional CHC Unit inside the NHS … contact details with the paperwork ?

If they confirm the CCG’s view , let us know.

Are you certain it’s the CCG and not some sub contractor ???
Said " Accessories " are all necessities required for her daily care needs !

Is it possible to pay top-up fees for NHS continuing healthcare ?

No, it isn’t possible to top up NHS continuing healthcare packages, like you can with local authority care packages.

The only way that NHS continuing healthcare packages can be topped up privately is if you pay for additional private services on top of the services you’re assessed as needing from the NHS. These private services should be provided by different staff and preferably in a different setting.

There are also several law practices out there with articles expressing exactly the same opinion … NO TOP UP FEES !
( Internet search … CHC TOP FEES LEGAL OPINIONS … explore a sample ? )

I stand by the above information supplied !

I’m no expert … legal expertise may eventually be required here.

We were giving copies of both assessment stage and decision letters. You need these in case of situations like this, wherein you may need make a complaint or further enquiries.

The consumables you mentioned, are they an assessed need? Some should be provided by whichever company now covering her care package, such as the gloves. However, if she buys bed pads as something she feels more comfortable using, without an assessment, they can say she should cover these costs herself. Very grey area between assessed need and personal choice. Hope that makes sense.

You really do need to obtain copies of the necessary paperwork to find out the breakdown of her services. If the consumables in the decision, then yes they should be paying.
