Carers Allowance and Pension

I currently make a small income from my own business, which is within the limit allowed to also claim Carers Allowance. I’ve just become eligible to draw my pension, but if I do that I will have to give up the Carers Allowance.
I’m thinking that I will hold off claiming my pension until I feel I have to stop working. My question is, is that permissible? And is it ethical, do you think?
Thanks for your help!

Maggie,

I really wouldn’t even consider if it’s ethical or not! Carer’s allowance is not an ethical amount, it’s a pittance.

Have you checked whether you can definitely get Carer’s Allowance if you are past pension age (even though you have deferred receiving it)?

Do your sums and work out what is best for you financially.
