After spending ages on the phone yesterday to BT, because M’s phone line had been cut by someone using a hedge cutter, 2 days before he went to Center Paris. I spent well over an hour on the phone to an arrogant jobsworth. Towards the end of the call, which involved 15 minutes of listening to music, I got very fed up, then mentioned my Business degree, the fact that I’d run a business for many years, and was an active member here. He was adamant, if they took the details of the care agency they could be imprisoned as ir would be a breach of the GDPR! So M’s phone wouldn’t be mended, no care line, until he could be present! Today I was rung by the most senior officer in the Complaints department who agreed it had all gone terribly wrong. An engineer called, no need for access, it only took him 10 minutes. Most important of all is that they now plan to set up some specially trained advisors who understand more about making reasonable adjustments especially when care lines are concerned! Also recognising people who are DWP appointees, and why those caring for someone with learning difficulties can’t give someone else POA ro act for them.
Everything is such a battle to sort out isn’t it. Glad you have got that sorted for M, stressful for you though. Hope the senior officer is able to action the improvements asap.
I think it’s wrong that someone like M or S can’t nominate someone to have POA - they come to us for help to sort stuff out. If they were asked who they most trusted of who would they like to help them they’d say us … but we’d have to go through COP and they view all family members with suspicion and mistrust …
rant over!
