I’m full time carer for my Mum who lives with me. Theres a possibility that I might have to go into hospital. Contacted Social Services, explained and asked what is the procedure for Mum to go into a care home. I was told that they would pay the first £615, mum would be “assessed” for her contribution and the 3rd party would pay the shortfall. My question is why should I have to pay to go into hospital?
Also, to add to the problem, we have a dog and cat, due to covid they didn’t get there boosters. There is a national shortage of the vaccine, so will be unable to put them kennel/cattery. When social services get back to me I will be asking for carers to come in to prepare Mums meals etc. Would the carers also feed the pets and let them out. I don’t mean walk the dog just let him down the garden.

You cannot be forced to care, and you most certainly do NOT have to pay anything towards mum’s care needs.
That should be assessed on her income and assets alone.
Ask them to “clarify the situation by email” so you can show mum or anyone else.
