The new PIP changes

With the new PIP changes does this mean that those of us that dont have 4 points in one section will have the daily allowance withdrawn in Nov 2026 or when our review date expires ?

"from November 2026, claimants will need to score at least 4 points from a single descriptor to qualify for the daily living component of PIP, as well as scoring a total of at least 8 points..

*So, if you select 4 descriptors scoring two points each, that will be 8 points, but it will not qualify for an award. *

But if you select one descriptor scoring 4 points and two descriptors scoring 2 points, that will be 8 points and you will qualify for an award.

There will also be review of the PIP assessment system led by disability minister Stephen Timms.

PIP existing claimants

The DWP says it “will work with Department of Health and Social Care to ensure that existing people who claim PIP who may no longer be entitled to the benefit following an award review under new eligibility rules have their health and eligible care needs met. The government is consulting on how best to achieve this.”

This suggests that existing claimants will be subject to the new rules when their award is reviewed, if the review takes place from November 2026 onwards."

How do existing claimants know how many points they have scored in various sections of PIP?

When a claimant receives their award letter, it will give a breakdown of which areas scored how many points.

Agreed. The “Statement of Entitlement” has a full listing of all 10 daily living activities and the 2 mobility activities, so it’s actually very clear.

You can read the green paper listing all the changes and better still, you can reply to the changes and let the government know how these changes will affect you. I sent a very detailed Email to my local MP and made my views very clear to her and also made comments to the green paper. I am not sure it will make any difference, but its surely worth a try? All comments sent in via the link below will be seen by the committee tasked with bringing this green papers changes into law so its probably the only way you can get your views known by anyone who has the power to make changes to the final law making.
