Respite homes

Hi

I’m new to this so please be gentle with me. My mum is currently in a respite home and has been for nearly 6 weeks now. I was her carer but had to go into hospital and was in for almost 3 weeks.

My mum is 92 and desperately wants to come home. I have raised this with the social worker but there’s no care package in place at the moment. The weeks go by still no progress being made.

What are my powers during lockdown ?

Regards

Keith

Talk to the hospital PALS and inform them My mum is 92 and desperately wants to come home

As long as it is safe to do so and Mum’s consultant agrees. Ask PALS to liaise with Social service to get an urgent home assessment.

There has always been a short age of home carers, worse than ever now. Can you manage mum with out any outside help?

Hi Keith, welcome to the forum

I can only imagine how frustrating it is to try and get your mums care package sorted, at the moment it seems that everything is taking much longer, it must be causing you a great deal of upset.

At the moment we’re running series of online weekly meet ups for carers to get together and chat informally Keith, please have a look at the link and maybe come along to a session. People say they’ve found it really helpful and supportive and it’s nice to be able to take a little bit of time for yourself. There’s no pressure to share any more than you’re comfortable with. Join up details are here. It’s a great place to meet other carers, pick up tips and listen to others caring experiences.
