Permanently open video call link

Hi

I need to be on 24/7 call from my house a short drive away from the person I care for .

I know all about the usual Facebook messenger video calls etc but it would be so much easier given his medical conditions if he didn’t have to deal with anything like apps/ buttons / icons etc etc . So I thought of having a computer permanently on both ends with a video call always on so he feels ‘ connected ‘ 24/7 .

Has anybody else done this and if so how ?

Thank you

P.s I had no idea which forum to use so please move it if there’s a better place

Hi Bonny

Have you considered one of the cameras linked to an App? They are used for security but a friend used one to monitor hi mother who had dementia and he could talk to her and hear her. If a sensor was tripped he would check and tell her to get back to bed or to have a sit down and she found it comforting. It’s possible to put those in multiple rooms. Some will work with Amazon Alexa and other systems are available. I believe they can be on all the time or motion activated.

We have Alexa Echos in every room and that means Graham can call me if he needs help. Also if I am on a dog walk he just needs to say ‘Alexa Call Chris Mobile…’ and I get a call on my mobile and we can talk. If I hear nothing i can get back quickly or call a neighbour to get round to check on him as I make my way. Quite a comfort - as long as he uses it.

Hope this helps

There are lots of camera set ups which are easy and motion sensored
When I had a flat and wasn’t there a lot, for security I had 2 cameras set up…a version of one of these: Amazon.co.uk : ipc360
There was an app on my phone and I’d watch to check and be alerted of any movement.

Similarly I had this set up to see my Dad when he was in bed: https://www.amazon.co.uk/GHB-Wireless-Temperature-Monitoring-Function/dp/B07NZP6C6K/ref=sr_1_10?keywords=Best%2BBaby%2BMonitor&qid=1706719100&sr=8-10&th=1
There’s a 2-way talk function. I was in the near-vicinty tho

Personally I’d prefer one of these to FB messenger. These are motion only the person your watching doesn’t need to do anything…as far as I remember from 2019.
Just check for 2-way intercom, how it’s set up with wifi and app (or not) and if there is a subscription to pay for the app - sometimes it can be a lot

hope that helps xoxo
