Part time Job and caring

Hey,

Im new to these forums.

Ive recently applied for a part time job in ASDA in northern ireland and have been given a interview but im not sure of how many hours etc i can work and still recieve carers allowence?, i also recieve income support. I did write being a carer in my employment history but im not sure if i should remind them in the interview that i am a carer and can only work so many hours?

Thanks Ross

Hi, Im afraid I dont know all about benefits, but I do know that if you receive carers allowance, its not about the number of hours you work, its about the amount earned. I believe the amount you are able to earn in a week is just over £50. It was £50 when I was claiming, but I think its gone up a bit (still not enough).

I now work part time and do not receive carers allowance, or any benefits at all.

the limit is £100 a week but you can’t get paid monthly because that’s too much in a month because 100 x 52 = 5200 divided by 12 months is 433.33,i know it’s a load of b******s but that’s the rule, been there done that got the t shirt, you will lose your income support but if you care for a spouse on dla and have kids and can get the £100 over 16 hours you can get working tax credit.

You can earn a whole lot more than £100 and still claim CA.
You can deduct: -

Income tax
National Insurance
Work expenses (like phone line, if needed)
Respite or other caring related costs
50% of all payments towards a pension (and anyone can join a private or occupational pension scheme, and the government gives the tax back later, so this is a good way to reduce income)

So, be flexible, check out the rules, and take maximum advantage of the allowances.

Just wanted to welcome you to the forum Ross!
