Overpayments due to my wage payment date?!

Hello!

Today I have been informed that dating back to 2019 I have had several months that my earning have exceeded the “monthly” threshold. I told them that I find this highly unlikely as I work the same hours every week with no overtime and have ALWAYS been super careful not to exceed the weekly tresholds that are on the gov website! I even dropped hours when the minimum wage increased and the threshold didn’t! The people on the phone tell me because I get paid on the 25th of every month I should’ve been working with the monthly threshold amount NOT the weekly which is different apparently! Where on earth is this mentioned?? How on earth would I know this??
I was also told that I would be charged a civil penalty fine of £50 for not informing them of going over their threshold! How on earth would I even know I was if I was working to make sure I was under the weekly threshold ?!?!?!?
Has anyone else had this problem?
I intend to dispute this and will fight it but really don’t know where to start!

Thanks in advance for any replies .

@LouiseandDiddy Hi! Welcome to the forum.
Ugggghhh I hate all this by the DWP it’s their thresholds, they impose and then they haven’t notified and provided timely information for anyone to follow up on…it’s a huge scandal that Carers UK has been campaigning about. I know a fair amount because I followed the investigation and The Guardian pieces about it all
I highly recommend calling the Carers UK helpline to get specific information and talk through your case - they’ll have the best info for you

I don’t want to give you wrong information. You’ve obviously been keeping a careful account of everything, and you know the ins and outs of your wages. There were cases supported by The Guardian to appeal debt charges that the DWP were pursuing…the problem is the time, effort and paperwork involved. So, I’ve heard of cases.
Chat to the helpline they’ll know what to do
sending a big hug because this crap is stressful

Are you aware of things which can effectively reduce your earnings when taken into consideration.
I’m sure there is a list on the main CUK website.
