Do ‘adaptations’ affect the adapted housing list

Hi all.

So we are trying to get mum moved again. Basically her new place is not very nice and the people are awful, we have been looking at ways to make this happen. The place is very odd and the people are horrible, even someone from Homesearch said that they had heard this many times before.

Her bathroom also doesn’t suit her needs, and she struggles to get in and out of the bath. Previously she had an OT assessment and it was determined that she needed a level access shower with a seat and was placed on the adapted housing list and was given a band B.

An OT visited today and said she would benefit from a bath seat, and hand rails. I spoke to mum but she has a memory like a civ, and can’t recall anything ever. She just looses focus.

Now I’m left not knowing if this will affect her place on the adapted housing list. I’ve tried calling the OT but she hasn’t got back yet, so I am awaiting a call.

My mum had an Archimedes bath seat. Look at them online. Not a structural alteration.

We kind of wanted this to be the thing that got mum out of this place really.

Her social worker has said that this place is really not suitable to her and having a huge impact. However, we have to go down the box ticking result.

So I managed to eventually get a call from someone in that department who blatantly shouted at me down the phone.

I was told that my mums needs are none of my business and I have no reason asking. I was simply trying to clarify something to help mum as she didn’t understand what something meant.

I know my mums needs better than anyone living on this planet.

I only couldn’t be at the assessment because I had an important meeting which was arranged out of my hands, and I had to be there.

I’m sick of this unfair treatment of carers and being told that we don’t matter. I’m sick of people who think they know better.

Make a formal complaint. No one should be shouted at down the phone. The council should be well aware that your mum is a vulnerable adult. I was also shouted at earlier this year, by someone I had never met, to be told I was not a carer any more!!! That person is no longer working for Social Services.

I just think there is no point complaining because they will all have each others backs. I have been down the process before.

It does say in an OT report/assessment done by someone else that she has trouble understanding things and relies on me for support with this, which is what I was doing when I called the OT yesterday only to be shouted at.

Is mum aware how they treated you? Would she agree to giving you Power of Attornet. Then they would have to take notice of you.

She isn’t aware. She isn’t very well at the moment.

The thing is the ‘social worker’ will happily speak to me. The woman is unofficially mums social worker, its due to the difference between long term and occasional support because mum doesn’t need round the clock she only needs occasional support, then they wont put her through to the main team. The woman we do speak to is actually really good, she is the one who got the ball rolling before. When mum moved to long term, things got sloppy. This woman now is on a backburner and is helping mum as and when she needs it.

The person who did the housing report happily spoke to me. They all know that mum has given permission for them to speak to me, they completely ignored this, and just shouted at me. They just seem to be on power trips.
