I will also read up on other posts and discussions. You probably get this question a lot. I’ve re-joined to the forum today, although I did use it years ago and it was really helpful.
My father has vascular dementia, and the progress of the dementia has been quite slow. His main reason for the constant hospitalisations recently is falls. If it wasn’t for the falls, an argument might be had to try and increase his care at home, and take it from there. It might be the case that nothing more can reasonably be done to keep him as safe as he should be at home. Lives alone in a 1-bed flat.
He would be a self-funder for care. Currently does have x4 care visits per day, but almost all of his problems occur overnight.
He is currently on an acute elderly ward. Hospital staff say they help make “the arrangements” and refer him to a care home. As a family, we are not sure if there is any difference in going with the hospital on this, or having him home temporarily and asking the local authority to lead on it, if lead is the right word? Or, if someone will be a self-funder, would the local authority not want to be involved, and expect family to lead?
We don’t really know where to start, or if there is a good guide somewhere? I can answer any specifics. I just didn’t want to write war & peace unnecessarily as my first post.
Thank you.
