Hi,
Would like some information please.
I’m the main carer for my autistic son. My ex is planning to take him away for holiday for 1 week.
Will it affect my carer allowance as I won’t be going with my son?
How about if I go abroad but along with my son?
Many thanks.

If you temporarily stop providing care for someone
You can still get Carer’s Allowance if you temporarily stop providing care for someone.
This means any period when you spend less than 35 hours a week caring for the other person. For example, you could get Carer’s Allowance for up to :
12 weeks if either of you go into respite care or hospital.
4 weeks if either of you go on holiday.

Jlee … hello! If you go abroad with your son on holiday you are still caring for him so will get the allowance.
In fact you should get treble the money as it’s VERY hard work.
