Carers Active 2026

Hi everyone

Welcome to this space dedicated to Carers Active – all about supporting unpaid carers to be as physically active as they can, in ways that work for them. Whether it’s a short walk, gentle stretching, a local activity class, or finding small moments of movement in a busy day, it all counts.

Caring can make it difficult to prioritise your own health and wellbeing, so this thread is here to encourage, support and inspire each other. We’d love for you to share your experiences, ideas, challenges, and little wins – no matter how big or small.

What helps you stay active? What gets in the way? And how does being active make you feel?

Looking forward to hearing from you and building a supportive, encouraging community together!

thank you for the gift box! (i’d totally forgotten i’d signed up for it but it arrived today and will be well used, especially, i think, the stretchy rubberband, arm muscles could do with a bit of it!)

I have five hours of respite a week (vouchers being phased out by LA  ). Theoretically, time for me but I do tend to use it to do grocery shopping, trips to the recycling centre and such. However, since signing up to the active day, I have spent at least one of these hours walking for mind health. For the cardio, my two up, two down doesn’t have space for much, so I have taken to running up and down the stairs 3 times whenever I use them. I still call this exercise The Thirty-Nine steps, though it’s 91 now (the last 13 at a gasp, usually). And to think a couple of weeks ago I thought I would be spending today doing chair exercises.
