Benefits stoopped due to being in hospital

I am struggling my dad has throat cancer in am just out of my depth he spent 9 weeks in hospital major operation i called dwp to let them know he has come home from hospital and they hsve sent him a letter to say he’s not entitled to pension credits and his pip stopped also he’s more disabled now than before he went in hospital can not talk uses a walking frame has to sleep down stairs in a bed that’s in his kitchen because he can’t climb the stairs and has to hsve radiotherapy still can’t take any more of it hooe someone can help give advice

@lyndsey.lyons, what you need to do is speak to the carers helpine , but also citzen advice berua for help. You could also try maggies who helps with cancer folk and they might have someone to help help. Has he has assesment by Social services or by the OT’S? If not aske them or the gp to get involed to help.

No one can be forced to care, not even for a parent.
Dad needs an URGENT NHS Continuing Healthcare Assessment. He should have had one before discharge, as he’s clearly very ill. Is he getting any support from your local hospice?
Sorry, I’m not an expert on what happens around hospital discharges.
Is he claiming highest Attendance Allowance?
Has he given you Power of Attorney?
Did anyone assess the situation at home,
This is the first time in 50 years I’ve ever heard of someone sleeping in the kitchen!
Would it be better if he was in a nearby nursing home now?
