Interesting report
Imho, more working age in Homes because there is no longer the budget to provide complex or long hours care in individual’s homes. (not that it ever was a financially viable idea anyway), and there are no longer smaller hospital type institutions as an alternative.
Again imho, direct payments are not taken up because the amounts are insufficient to provide the care, and are not raised in line with inflation, wages costs etc and have hidden charges such as payroll and employer costs. Also they have to be spent exactly as care plan so don’t have the freedom promised. Although it was interesting to note the wide variations in take up between authorities.
There is enough information and personal experiences on this forum to cover umpteen reports. A member once suggested that ‘professionals’ were made to read forums like this to show them the reality of what life is for us. Wonder if the opinions among them would differ… in that would they label it as fiction or non fiction

That phrase takes us both back to the halycon days of CarerWatch , R !
Perhaps reworded … " How to shift the responsibility of social care back to the end users ? "
( CHC / NHS Contining Healthcare … POINTON … ignored nationwide ??? )
Almost akin to UC … once unleashed , just follow the devastation.

The rollout of Direct Payments … little fanfare and … as WE predicted , nothing but problems
… even the use of DPs to pay family members STILL up in the stratosphere as to yes / no / on
some occasions ?
What should work on paper will only work in practice if it is funded correctly.
If only they had listened … and then acted … on what we proposed ?
A decade into the " New Way " … with millions saved the frustration and sense of hopelessness
with the current system held together with little more that sticky tape and sticking plaster ?
UNLIKE FOOD BANKS , THERE ARE CURRENTLY NO " SOCIAL CARE BANKS " OUT THERE !
UNLESS , OF COURSE , FAMILY / KINSHIP CARERS COULD BE CONSTRUED AS VOLUNTEERS PROVIDING SUCH A SERVICE ???
