Putting a cap on care home costs

I apologise if this is not the right place to make this post but I have read several comments on the forum about people self-funding care home costs and worrying about what will happen when the money ‘runs out’. The answer of course depends on the particular care home (and what its contract says), how long the person has lived there and the specific Local Authority.

In my professional capacity, I advise self-funding families about what financial options they have and the one that the vast majority have never heard of is a Care Fees Annuity. This won’t appeal to everyone and indeed it won’t even be affordable for many but it is my view that, in situations where a property is being sold to pay for care need and other funding streams such as NHS Continuing Healthcare have been denied, it should at least be considered.
