New to carers connect again

Hey there folks, Just a wee hello from myself new to this forum, Im a 50 something carer, that has recently taken on the role of full time carer to a family member of 92, I have been actually a minder/observer of this person for 10 years plus, but because of more serious interventions recently, am now full time 24/7, The gent im caring for suffers from partial blindness, partial deafness and now has a full time catheter for urine drainage. Sooooo a lot to consider, as i say have been in this role already for some years as an unpaid carer, which i hope to change shortly. I live in North West Glasgow area, and would welcome any chat from others nearby. Everything at the moment is up in the air and thus no routine has been settled into yet, so its all a bit overwhelming.

No,one can be forced to care, are you sure you want to do this? He should be entitled to Attendance Allowance. Someone needs to have Power of Attorney arranged to many his money. Has he had a Needs Assessment from Social Services, and you, a Carers Assessment. Are you related? Do you live with him? Is the property owned, or rented? The answers will help us give best advice.

Hi ive no problem being his carer, ive been doing it long enough already, so were already in the loop so to speak, there is a POA already set up and im just completing Part 2 of the Pension Age Disability Payment (PADP) in Scotland, which when and if awarded will allow for me to apply for Carer Support Payment, were up to speed so far, just takes a little time.
