Through our helpline, we often hear from people experiencing problems with social care. We have teamed up with Access Social Care to offer another option if you need information about social care in England.
Access Social Care is a charity that specialises in information and advice about social care issues.
The charity has introduced an online tool called AccessAva that helps you understand the law on social care in England. The tool can help you find out about the rights you have and the rights of anyone you’re caring for. It can also provide template letters developed by expert lawyers.

Is there something for Wales? As like England there is trouble in other parts of UK.
Hi @CUK_Membership_Team
I’ve just delved into this a little - I would never have known about Access Social Care if I hadn’t delved further…Is there a specific article on Carers UK to promote AccessAva? and the work of Access Social Care (ASC)?
2 pieces of feedback - I think many people could get put off by a chatbot, also because many people may not want to click around…it’s worth highlighting that there is a telephone based advice service: How We Work - Telephone-based advice
I’m also impressed by their video: https://youtu.be/d_KzOKo9s5Y
Which is part of their page ‘Our Impact’ Access to Justice Ensuring People Have the Care They Deserve
I’ll be highlighting this on my website publication to give Carer Mentor readers access to legal advice should they need it.
I wanted to find out more information because I’ve friends who are likely to need continuing healthcare and we can’t understand the difference between that and social care…the Access Ava chatbot provided a clear video.
@bowlingbun @Charlesh47 @Chris_22081 - I recommend watching the video

@Michael_1910123, Sorry for the delay in replying to you. Unfortunately, this only applies to England at the moment, but we understand that Access Social Care hope to secure funding in the future to expand this to Wales (and other UK nations) too. Meanwhile, this link might be helpful: https://www.lawcentres.org.uk/get-help

Hi @Victoria_1806 ,
Thank you very much for your feedback. It’s great to hear you’ve found it helpful! This is really useful for us, particularly as AccessAva was only recently launched and we are in the early stages of promoting it. I have passed your feedback on to the team at Access Social Care, and we will look at where we can include signposting to the telephone support for people who may prefer alternatives to online tools.
Promoting AccessAva via our communication channels is an ongoing piece of work and we really appreciate you sharing AccessAva with your network. In terms of articles on our website, we published this press release when Access Ava was launched: AccessAva - online rights resource | Carers UK
We also have this dedicated page on our website: Access Social Care - for advice on social care issues in England | Carers UK
Thanks again for your feedback and support.
