New member at Carers UK

Hello everyone,

I have just joined Carers UK and thought I would introduce myself.

In the last couple of years I have taken on the role of Power of Attorney and Executor of Will for both of my parents. I am one of three children, but I am the only one living in the UK and unfortunately the relationship with my two older siblings is not very close. I have experienced a range of emotions including anxiety, anger, fear and resentment. I sometimes feel very isolated and lonely because of a strong sense of the responsibility I will have when I look to the future and the increasing care and support I will need to provide my parents.

I was just wondering if anyone else was in a similar situation and could relate and how you perhaps manage these conflicting feelings and your own wellbeing.

Thank you.

My husband and I supported both sets of parents, all living locally, for years. All very ill, you name it, they had it. We both worked from home, not perceived as “proper jobs” because when they came to our home we both had to stop what we were doing, then we worked evenings to catch up.
How old are your parents?
Are they currently well?
Do they own or rent their home?
Have over £46,000 in savings? Yes/No.
Do you live with them?

Hi @Olider

welcome to the forum.

It’s understandable that you feel as you do about the responsibility you have had placed on you.

Your parents’ sound organised though and that’s good. Be careful not to make promises you will struggle to keep.
