Live in carer costs

CHC / NHS Continuing Healthcare … main thread.

Hardly any difference between £ and $ these days :frowning:

I have been told uofficially that the council are likely to try and cut mothers visits to 2 carers three times a day instead of four.

Apparantly social workers are not encouraged to tell people what they are entitled to in terms of respite in order to save costs!

If I tell the dr how stressed I am and that I cant cope without regular days off the council may decode that mother would be better off in a care home … Why not just pay family carers a living wage and give them the usual 48 hrs a week off?

I feel so angry and upset about all this.

It seems lunacy that paying Carers £1000 a week is cheaper than paying family carers £1000 a month, but the truth is there are so many families caring that the numbers far outweigh the Council paid costs, and why they try to persuade more of us to do it, and do it for longer than we really can

I care for a lady as a paid care worker who needs double up visits. She hasn’t got out of bed for 18 months and had 4 double visits a day for about 6 months but has now been dropped down to 3 double up vistis a day so it does happen. This lady is being funded by CHC, she was in the end of life category over 18 months ago.

Care hours should only be reduced if there has been reduction in NEEDS. This lady would have good reason to complain and then gt to the Ombudsman to get them reinstated.

There was a similar case reported just this week. The situation may a bit different but the reasons and ruling are quite clear. Jump to para 25

Nice one Mrs A. Bl**dy cost cutting tricks. I know it is only here say that the council may well cut the visits but good to be prepared.
