Thanks. I decided to ring the hospital. Firstly I got the “you must email” response, then explained that my hands were too painful, they had a duty to make reasonable adjustments. Ended up speaking to the hospital Director who was lovely, thought my suggestion of sending details about what an MRI involved with every appointment was very good. I also suggest that they explained that the room was airconditioned because of the equipment, to either wear a jumper or they could provide a blanket. Also agreed. She’s also going to find out about the size frame my foot was in. Apparently she too has big feet!!! Then she asked me to pop in and say hello when I was at the hospital on Monday. Much easier to make suggestions rather than make an actual complaint.
Nice one, @bowlingbun !
On the subject of Airboots, the idea of putting it on and off all day was really a non starter for me, it would drive me nuts. So I looked on Amazon and bought what I would call a foot/ankle support made by Aircast, which can be worn with roomy shoes. It came at lunchtime, in a flat box, so it took me a few minutes to work out what went where. It has a base a bit like an insole and then straps across and above my ankle. I can’t believe the difference it’s made. My dropped arch feels supported and everything else feels so much better. Today I’m just pottering around the house with it on, wearing some soft soled shoes. Tomorrow I have my annual diabetes check, so will wear it then.
that’s great that you’ve found a foot support that’s helping you feel better ![]()
The difference it has made is amazing. I managed to wear it all day yesterday, doing nothing strenuous, just pottering around the house. This morning my foot is normal and my ankle probably only 10% larger than the other one. The boot is very light and can’t be seen when I’m wearing dark shoes and tracksuit bottoms, my son asked me if I was wearing it? When I took it off the sole of my foot was incredibly itchy but after rubbing in Flexitol the itching reduced. Only real downside is that it has zero fashion appeal!
@bowlingbun that is really good news and that the swelling has gone down a lot and you can potter round the house. doesn’t matter what it looks like as long as it is helping you and you can hide it under your tracksuit bottoms./shoes. Have a good day.take care.
@bowlingbun oh I’ve just caught this. That must have been just a gutting diagnosis. I know my xray was painful enough after knee replacement can only imagine your pain for MRI. Good for you feeding b k to the hospital. Looks like you found a good manager. Took you seriously. The item you got seems to be helping so much. Now why not have in your head you will still be able to go on holiday. It is a relaxing not doing “ stuff” holiday. You can get assisted help round the airport and on and off the plane if it’s not up that by time you go. Please don’t say I wouldn’t do that because you feel not in a situation that warrants it. You could be and why not if it gets you on holiday Thats the super important thing. So pleased again the forum knowledge has given you hope
That’s positive, hopefully you can still go away ![]()
I’m due to see the consultant on June 1st to discuss what the MRI revealed. Given how the leg has gone down by wearing the boot, I’m hopeful that if I’m good and don’t strain things, I’ll be able to go to Crete. Needless to say, I’ve been giving this a lot of thought., My friend Helen is desperate for me to go too, and has offered to do whatever is needed once I arrive. She flies from East Midlands, I’m going via Gatwick. If I have to use the disabled “bus” to the plane, I’ll cope. Our favourite beach is only a couple of miles away, so if necessary I can get a taxi.
Im so glad to hear that the boot has made such a massive difference to you immediately. Thats a really good indication in my mind that this is reversible and youll be able to go on holiday - I do hope so, from what I remember Crete was pretty easy to move around for those with mobility issues, but that waa 20+ years ago.
Everything crossed for a positive outcome on the 1st!
So pleased you are planning ahead and thinking positively. The boot seems to be a great help. I’ve got a thick insole for both trainers to stop right foot leaning out due to knee. I never realised how not like a knee my knees were til, first one replaced. They are good but means you are higher up heel to it’s feels like you foot is coming out. Think I will but in my walking boots. Got thinner ones for nipping out and about. I went to beautician to eyebrows waxed. All of 5 min walk and no insole. Straight away right side of bad leg foot was pretty painful so they do work. I can still just about get my knee flat to floor but it is playing up now at times. Think might be ok this year. But after that….
Thanks for the information. I’m due to see a local podiatrist on Tuesday but won’t commit to anything until I have the MRI results next week. I’m slowly learning what I can and cannot do. I managed my second new knee rehab well. You only get the real benefit of the first after the second one. No more pain.
