Hi. I just wanted to introduce myself to you all. I have a 19 yr old son who was born with complex special needs. He is non verbal and non mobile. We have transferred to Adult Services and so far it has gone ok. I thought it would be a good time now to join Carers UK as he is now an adult. Looking forward to chatting with you all on here.
Welcome to the forum. My son is 45, brain damaged at birth so can’t read, write or do any mats, but has an amazing memory for things we’ve seen and done. What services are you currently receiving?
He goes to College 4 days a week. He’s on a sensory course (messy play, recognising words and numbers) He’s on a waiting list to attend a day centre one day a week. We have an OT and wheelchair service. My husband and I share his care. We are under CHC but they can’t help us at the moment, not sure why
Hi @Lisa_B
Welcome to the forum.
Well done for navigating the transition to adult services - rarely easy and often stressful.
Quite a few of us care for adult children either as they live at home or are still involved in supporting them even though they live in independent/ supported living or a group home.
Hi Melly1 Thats really good to know, thank you.
