Have you ever had any back issues caused by caring? We’re sharing some guidance as we know it’s a common worry: Protecting your back | Carers UK Have any particular interventions helped you?
When my husband who then weighed around 10st rolled off the sofa and could not get back up, I called the Surgery for advice. I was told to ‘let him lean on me to get him back up’. I refused as I weigh 7st and NO WAY was I going to risk my back. The lack of compassion the NHS show Carers is appalling and we have every right to say NO. The NP did say ‘well you cannot just leave him there’. I did point out that if he REALLY could not get up then I would have to call 999 and ask for a paramedic. My neighbour had suggested I call Surgery as she was worried about her back if she tried to help me and also hurting him by not moving him properly. She was a Care Agency manager before retiring so her advice was well thought out.
