Carers Week is here!

Good morning everyone and welcome to Carers Week 2020

I hope you will be able to participate in some of the online events being held by Carers UK and other organisations across the UK during the coming week. See www.carersweek.org for all events across the country and to add your voice to the Make Caring Visible campaign or to make a pledge.

New figures released for Carers Week (8th – 14th June 2020) show an estimated 4.5 million people in the UK have become unpaid carers as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic. This is on top of the 9.1 million unpaid carers who were already caring before the outbreak, bringing the total to 13.6 million. See this link for further details and the full report.

Today we have our first of four live Q&A sessions taking place during the week. Today’s session focusses on Carer’s Allowance and one of our helpline advisers looks forward to receiving your questions from 11-12.30. See this link for further details.

Also today we are running the first of five daily Care for a Cuppa online meet-ups. If you’d like to attend one of these I would suggest registering for one on Tue, Wed or Fri as today’s session and Thursdays are full. We also have a Share and Learn session with Sport England tomorrow focussing on keeping fit.

Wishing you all a good week
