Carers element on UC

Hello, I would appreciate any help.

My Dad is terminally ill, he lives with my Mum.

They receive attendance allowance. My mum does not receive carers allowance. She receives state pension.

The Macmillan nurse recently suggested I apply for the carers element through UC.

They have said that as my mum has an underlying eligibility for carers allowance this needs withdrawing before my claim can be completed.

Does anyone have experience of this? If I fill the form out online to close the carers allowance claim for my Mum is this enough for what UC need?

Thank you

Sorry, I don’t know the answer to your question. As dad is terminally ill, has the GP applied for NHS Continuing Healthcare for him, all the care he will need, free of charge?
Have Social Services done a Needs Assessment for dad and a Carers Assessment for mum?
Now, the horrible bit, I’m afraid.
Have you and mum thought about the final arrangements for dad?
Found out costs from funeral directors and worked out which one you will use?
Sadly I’ve arranged many funerals for family members in recent years. My husband died suddenly in his sleep, so I had to arrange everything in tears.
On the other hand when mum was ill in a nursing home, and I was due to go on a much needed holiday, the GP suggested I made arrangements just in case anything happened when I was away. Same funeral director, so I explained the situation to the nursing home. In fact mum lived a few more months, but when her time came it was so much easier.
An equally difficult subject is to Google Signs of Dying. Tears rolled down my face as I did this. You will find lots of useful information written by people from the hospice movement, which explain how the body slows down over years, and why if someone says they don’t want anything to eat or drink, it’s important to respect those wishes.
There are lots of people here who have been in your situation, if there are things you are concerned about but don’t necessarily want to talk about with mum, we are here for you.

@Jb2104 this is the number for claiming carers allowance benefit. phone.0800 731 0297

Universal credit .to claim the carers element of universal credit. Phone number is 0800 328 9344 they should be able to answer all your questions . Or use your online journal .

I don’t know if you get universal credit already and are just adding the carer element the number above. The other is carers allowance. I suppose it depends on situation

Also Ring his doctor and ask him to put your dad in for continued healthcare (CHC) to do a checklist and then assessment from the intergrated care board if he passes the checklist. if you doctor does not know how to do a checklist a lot don’t ,then ask him to put in for a checklist/assessment from the intergrated care board and they will come and do the checklist and assessment if he passes the checklist.

Or you could go onto google type in local intregrated care board, put in where you live the area. And it should bring up your local intregrated care board and there phone number. You ring that phone number and you ask for a CHC checklist for continued healthcare care and they should send someone out to do it. It’s free care for people who have primary health needs due to an illness, disability or accident. But to get an assessment you have to pass the checklist. Which you will need to arrange ok. I hope you are ok.

@Jb2104 , I can only suggest you talk to the UC people themselves. You could e-mail them but I recommend talking over the phone. Explain your circumstances. Also, Citizen’s Advice is a good marker. Good luck.
