I had one of these donkey’s years ago. The SW was here for nearly 2 hours and made loads of notes and I remember telling her what would benefit me as a carer. This was first time round as a carer. I got absolutely nothing.
Second time as a carer I didn’t bother with one.
I am now caring for the third time and feeling my age and I have been referred for one. What type of help have people got from these? I suppose it will be a while before they get round to it but trying to get ahead. I would love a regular massage as I feel so much more tired and achey this time. I would also like to get back to Aqua Aerobics as just being in the water is good and it gets me out. thanks.
Had a one hour phone call and have been promised loads of leaflets!
I did mention that I felt I needed either a regular massage to destress or some aqua aerobics sessions. Seems only people with no money get things like this.
I still don’t understand what the point is of these. i guess they keep some people in jobs.
@Penny
I was really hoping you’d have a better experience this time around. That really isn’t any help at all - especially as you barely have the time to even read the leaflets. Of you have the energy ask for a copy of the Carers assessment report as others have found it full of discrepancies and challenge it if you can.
Penny, that is so disappointing. Carers don’t have to pay for things in Hampshire.
I get money for counselling and gym membership, after battling for a long time though.
There is a new Carers Charter just launched here.
It’s brief sentences saying how we will be valued, supported, involved etc etc but none of it has been applied to me.
