Carefreespace break

Greetings Hope everyone are coping as best we can.I would like to mention the organisation Carefree space (How Carefree works: affordable breaks for unpaid carers). It is an amazing organization helping unpaid carers get a break through unusedhotel room. i suggest you visit their website and support them and also take advantage of the breaks. I myself has benefit from it. more about this soon

Another of our members has used them too.

I booked a break last year and it was amazing. Ā£30 admin fee was all it cost me and I got B&B with no restriction because of having the ā€˜free’ deal. A lovely hotel and the booking process was very simple through the Carefree website. You can book one or two night breaks - just one break per calendar year though to ensure it isn’t abused). Enjoyed a lovely time and was able to have a brief meet up with a couple of people from the Forum too which made it even more special.

I’ll be hoping to book again as it DID make a difference.

Sounds fab, I’ll have to look into that ..
I’m new on here and just getting to know people ..
I care for my husband who suffers anxiety and depression along with other physical ailments ..

Max, that’s OK, we were all new once. I remember thinking that everyone else seemed to know each other and felt an outsider, when I first joined. Caring stopped me having a career, but that meant I ended up doing some really unusual things instead. Accidentally becoming well known in the commercial vehicle preservation world as my husband bought an old lorry and low loader to take our steam engine to shows, nearly all my male friends have a ā€œClass 1ā€ licence! I was widowed a long time ago, so I go to a single travellers only hotel in Crete most years and have made really good friends with someone who is also a carer. We can’t get together easily in the UK so really look forward to our ā€œescapeā€. A number of guests are current or former carers, or their partner doesn’t like travelling any more. I usually go and chat to any of the men on their first visit if they are looking a bit lost.

That’s really good, we have to take the positives when they come our way don’t we, it all sounds very interesting ..
I’ve not had a bad day,
Hoping for a peaceful day tomorrow,
Hope you have too

Welcome to the Forum @Max1171 - If you check out ā€œRoll Callā€ thread https://forum.carersuk.org/t/roll-call-april-2025 you’ll find it’s where we have a general chit-chat and dare I say) gossip. You’ll find us a welcoming bunch who are very supportive and enjoy a giggle too in order to break the monotony of Caring. You can ask anything you like as long as it’s legal… and you’ll find someone else has experience of it. It’s also a place to share good news when we get any as well.

There’s not one of us who hasn’t benefitted from the support provided there. I’d be good to see you there. Have a mooch around and lurk for a bit if you don’t want to dip your toe in the water straight away. I care for my husband who had a stroke 3 years ago and whilst not a bad one, it led to a cascade of other medical problems. Right now he is quite ill again and it’s a struggle some days, so having my ā€˜cyber-friends’ on here providing me with support is amazing.

Oops - that’ll teach me - just noticed you have posted on Roll Call already. Glad you found it !!

Thanks Chris,
I think I am,
Hope you’re having a good day, it’s nice to know people care even when they have their own problems,
And we have to keep our humour up for sure ..

I have had a terrible couple of hours battling with P about what to do, staying in bed .. it’s a daily battle at mo,
It was improving I thought then bam, back down again,
I’m just having a coffee, then going for some shopping, and clear my head,
On the plus side I spent the day with my daughter yesterday but tend to steer away too much from talking about my home life, it’s my way of coping, and distraction.

How is your day going ? The sun is shining here

Fairly good day - clearing a load of weeds from the back garden then a bit of time sitting in the sunshine - which makes a change - not just the sun but some time to sit !!
