I’ll read the Gov on line info
but still unsure if a recent widower of 87 can claim ?

Because it states NI contributes last 25 weeks. The partner was 86 can people claim at this age.

Anyone know?

not heard of this allowance so looked it up.

The guidance says to be eligible:

When they died you must have been:

under State Pension age
living in the UK or a country that pays bereavement benefits

so sadly, I think not.

I was widowed before pension age, the DWP pension I receive was based on my husband’s payments.
