I am a carer for my son for the last 3 years. He is coming to the end of a 6mth detention of a section 3 , with a diagnosis of psychosis. So now we see what life has in store for the both of us.
Thankyou
Jackie.
Hello and welcome Jackie
I’m still quite new to the forum and although I’ve been caring for my mum for over 11 years now I still feel a bit of a fraud in my lack of practical skills (as in knowledge of available services, benefits, cookery, etc). I’m sure others will be helpful to you should you need that sort of advice - I just wanted to say ‘hello’.
I can’t imagine how difficult things were for you during your son’s detention and it seems to me there’s more than a hint of trepidation in the tone of your post. Is there a strong support network in place for you both, now that he is ready to return home? Social services can be very poor unless they’re pushed, so please don’t hesitate with them.
Someone recommended that I should keep posting here, let the steam out, that sort of thing. I think it can help, even with issues you thought you might never share. (Of course, only post what you feel really comfortable with!) Anyway, good luck with everything to you and your son Jackie - and keep posting.
Best wishes, David
Hi Jackie, welcome to the forum.
If that is your real name, can I suggest that you change it to something else, so you cannot be identified?
How old is your son? Is this something that came out of the blue, or has he been unwell for some time?
Have you asked Social Services for a Carers Assessment?
In my area, there are coffee mornings for those supporting people with mental health issues, but not advertised. During your carers assessment, ask if there is anything similar in your area.
