Wishing you well on Carers Rights Day

Dear Carers UK members

I’d just like to wish you well on Carers Rights Day and share a few links to items that I hope will be of interest. Whether you are out at one of the 450 events taking place around the UK, or keeping in touch with other carers through the Forum, I hope you have a good day.

This morning I was at a GP surgery in Haringey chatting to carers and letting them know about Carers UK and our welcoming and supportive Forum. Other Carers UK staff are also out and about raising awareness in GP surgeries and many of our 500 volunteers are distributing information in their communities to connect carers with Carers UK and local support.

To mark Carers Rights Day, our Chief Executive Helen Walker has written the following blog:

You can also read our latest research report (published today) which finds that half of all women will be carers by age 46, and half of all men by 57.

Today we’ve also been sharing Diane’s story and her experiences of caring for her daughter Ella who has NF1. NTUK supports Carers UK as well as Diane and all other carers supporting someone affected by nerve tumours.

And lastly, thanks to everyone who has submitted a question for our Ask the Expert session on the Forum. Suzette and Danny will be continuing to answer your questions until Friday (22 November) so please keep sending your questions in. You can read all of the responses here:

Thanks Michael.

I hope all carers who have had to visit their local food bank today have received similar greetings.
( Haringey ? My original manor … South Tottenham … decontamination takes a long time … )

Mine too: although it wasn’t Haringey then, I was born in Crouch End, (Hornsey) - that’s become quite fashionable since I left!

Crouch End … ( Bulls Head for modern jazz / Barum Records / change buses for Ally Pally ) … a 41 bus ride away … lived in Stroud Green when first married … virtually opposite the old maternity hospital.

Even then , very desirable and expensive . when I got out … in 1983.

I’ve been racking my brains and I can’t a place a Bull’s Head anywhere in Crouch End, and I’m pretty sure I know all the pubs there and a bit further afield, although not so much towards Finsbury Park, more the other way and over towards Hampstead and Highgate.

There’s a really good pub crawl we used to attempt every now and again from Chalk Farm Tube Stn. to Hampstead Tube Stn. - it was 28 pubs back in the 70s. :side:

Might be the Kings Head … certainly saw Alan Skidmore and John Surman … and Jim Mullen ( Ex Pete Brown & Piblokto … one of my alltime favourite groups ) perform there in the early 1970s.

Not as famous as Ronnie Scotts but was a good venue and appreciative audience.

Oh yeh … forgot … this is a " Happy Carers Day " day thread.

Well , you be 'Appy for us all ???
