My 19 year old daughter has just left school so she’s come off my UC claim.
My Uc has gone from £1305 to £90 a month.
Also lost £102 child benefit and £260 child maintenance.
My mortgage is still £1100, I earn around £950, I work part time to fit around my daughter.
My daughter will receive £316 UC next month.
When her work capacity is assessed she will receive another £423.
The biggest issue is I no longer qualify for a work allowance, so my part time reduces my UC significantly.
Also as I have a mortgage I get no help with housing.
Only SMI is being suggested, as that really it?
Hi @Mamapee and welcome. We don’t have any benefits experts among the carers, but Carers UK has a helpline. As your situation is fairly complex, I suggest emailing them at advice@carersuk.org - they can give you more detailed advice that way.

It’s really important that your daughter understands that most of “her” money is paid to cover her “board and lodging”. DWP don’t give much money for special treats.
In a care home she would be left with about £30 a week for “personal expenses”.
Does your daughter have learning difficulties? Are you her DWP Appointee?
Yes my daughter has LD, anxiety, depression, Autism, and she’s non verbal, and yes I’m her appointee.
She has no understanding of money so that’s not the issue, it’s the fact that my finances are so seriously reduced even tho all my bills are the same.
Literally I get such a small amount of help just because my daughter is now an adult and I have a mortgage.
The work allowance should be for carers too, as my capacity to earn more income is limited as much if not more than a parent with children on their claim.
The majority of your daughter’s money is for her housekeeping to be paid to you, a direct debit would be the best way of showing this. I can’t comment on the other issues I’m afraid.
