Hi all
I have just joined the forum and wanted to post an initial message. I’m a carer for my elderly mother who recently had a fall and broke her hip. Having been independent for her age, she now has big mobility problems and I have moved in with her to keep an eye on things and provide general support. She has problems with her memory too, so sometimes forgets what she can and can’t do, and it has been difficult recently to get her to eat properly. I find online forums can be a big help when I’m inside looking after her most of the time, and am looking forward to communicating with forum members to provide mutual support.
Hi Apple, welcome to the forum.
How old is mum?
Do you still have your own home?
If she has memory problems she may be exempt from Council Tax due to “Severe mental impairment”.
Thanks very much bowlingbun. My mum is 91 and I still have my own place where most of my possessions still are. Thanks for the advice about council tax.
Best wishes

Hello Apple
Firstly a huge welcome to our forum! I’m sorry to hear about your mum recent fall. I noticed you mentioned you find forums a route to finding mutual support but I wondered if you know we are also running a weekly online zoom session called care for a cuppa, its a great way to meet other carers who come together every Monday for an hour or so to share tips and support each other. There’s no pressure to share anything you’re not comfortable with. If you like to join us, here’s the sign up link, where you can find more information about our session and others.

Please do, it would be lovely to see you Apple, and its a great way of gleaning advice from others and meeting other carers. It’s also nice just to take a bit of time out for yourself too. Hope to see you at one of our meetups soon.
with all good wishes
