Hi, sorry I am totally new to all this. My mum has her pension and pension credit and has been awarded attendance allowance at the top rate. She is financially ok with all this. I think the person she talked to also suggested she got SDP. I am her carer, have no money and have not been on benefits at all. If I claim carers allowance and universal credit (not looking for work because I am her carer) ends up being about £140. Why is AI saying it is better she gets the £76 from SDP than I get the two benefits so she does not get that…. Someone please make it make sense, she would give me the 76 anyway, but surely it is better for me to get the carers allowance and universal credit? Thanks in advance x
You would be better advised to talk with the Carers UK Adviceline than rely on an AI.
The Adviceline can do a completely confidential full benefits check for both you and your Mum.

You are missing out on credits which go towards your pension, that’s hugely important. As a matter of principle, to me, if a carer is caring they should claim Carers Allowance and the other benefits they are entitled. SDP IS for people who live alone.
Is mum living in rented accommodation? You may be asked to leave soon after she dies.
