Hello, parent carer to a teenager here

Ho, I’m new here. I care for my 13 year old daughter who has chronic illnesses and pain since a minor accident 5 years ago. She has been doing home éducation for the last 18 months, which is really good for her. Her younger brother (11) has been home educated since October when he became too anxious to attend school. I work part-time from home and my husband works long hours during the week.

Wow, @Doublewhippet, that’s a lot of work! Welcome to the forum!

My autistic son is 40 (until next week), so these days I’m an exhausted old…something or other…with a number of adults to care for (my wife has a spinal cord injury and our eldest son has a number of issues)!

I think I’ve already seen you on Roll Call, so hope to hear more from you there!

Have any alternative schools been offered.

Having them home might seem the safest thing to do, short term, but it doesn’t help them to integrate into society. I know smaller schools are more expensive, and councils don’t want to pay. Have they even looked?

Please don’t think I’m criticising you, I had a 4 year battle to get my brain damaged son the education he deserved.

@doublewhippet you have a lot to deal with. I hope that you are doing ok. Just wanted to say hello.

Hi @Charlesh47 thanks for your message. It’s a comfort to hear from people in a similar situation, event ID is not a pleasant one.

@bowlingbun hi, home education works really well for us, and helps E manage her condition - it’s definitely a positive choice.

@Teddybear lovely to hear from you.
