Hi, you were all so supportive and helpful the last time I posted so I have the confidence to ask another question.
My mum moved into a care home in September, she has dementia, we are slowly coming to terms with the change but I wanted to ask what the is best thing to do on Christmas day? It’s a small home which would struggle to accommodate us all for food so would it best to go with a small collection of gifts and just stay for a brief period?
It’s not really possible to take Mum home as she has no mobility and is dually incontinent.
Thank you for any advice.

Hello
When my late husband was in a nursing home because of strokes vascular dementia and other health issues, I visited on Christmas day. Stayed for a while, can’t remember how long but definitely not all day. He had his meal, and didn’t even connect that I wasn’t eating. Took him a new top and chocolate . He slept after the meal.My son in law picked me up to go to my daughter’s for dinner. It was heartbreaking but felt it best for us both. Stuck to the routine of visiting every other day and my family going on alternative days.
Hope this helps.
Ask the home, they will tell you what they do, after all it’s something that happens every year, but your first year.
