Partner suffers from mental health

Hi all,

I’m in need of advice, my partner has a long standing issue with his mental health - he suffers with severe anxiety and depression. He has previously seen therapists and taken medication however he will no longer explore this and the situation is becoming volatile. He frequently turns to alcohol and this just results in aggressive behavior, in the last month he has tried to cut his wrists, broken my laptop, spat at me and generally just been violent.

I don’t know what to do anymore, I can’t leave as he threatens to kill himself but he wont get help and says that I don’t understand. How do I get him to seek help?

Thanks
J

Jenny, regardless of your partners illness his behaviour towards you is unacceptable. Please make sure you have national help line numbers in your phone.

His behaviour amounts to domestic abuse, it is not acceptable for him to behave like this. Talk to his GP, and tell him if he EVER does it again, you will call the Police.
